I was on a thread on /b/ a week back when it was posted. I had enough sense to wait for the dump to finish and to read it backwards. That saved me mental scars. But as for everyone who read it that night, well, pretty much the whole thread was disturbed.That's how messed up it is, it drove /b/tards to dry heaving! I kid you not! It was so bad a concerned anon wrote an 'easymode' epilogue (happy ending) to staple on the end within the hour to calm everyone down. Other epilogues were spawned later, that aimed to calm people down too.I've read it since, well, skim-read it, since grimdark isn't something I read, and it loses it's effect after the first read. But still, I cannot deny how brutal it is, as I witnessed an entire thread break down into anons going crazy…

The only reason this fanfic was written is to incite the drama and cause reaction from the fans. Hey… if you want something of yours to get a lot of attention and make it stand out from the rest, this is one way to do it. The author certainly got his wish in that regard.I was quite freaked out reading this the first time, but now I just shrug it off with a simple "meh". It's just fanfiction, after all.
…Jeez, people on the internet have weak stomachs. Or maybe I have a crappy imagination? That's a depressing thought. I dunno, I'm kind of not into this sort of thing as a general rule because it's so difficult to actually GET anything out of it. The dark, horrible stuff, especially the really dark and horrible stuff gets so difficult to even fathom that I think my brain just sort of coasts through the experience. And I don't think that's a completely uncommon reaction, but given how many people seem close to vomiting at this stuff I guess I'm wrong? I don't want to start telling people what they should or shouldn't write, just… you know, be aware the the farther "out there" you travel, the harder it is to get the reader to come with you. You've got to have more than just a bloody vivisection.

I'll say it again. I read a snippet from this story once and found it disturbing. Then I read the whole thing and found it almost funny. Initially I'd been letting my mind fill in the blanks that I hadn't read whereas the reality of the story was really pretty benign. It's kind of like a B grade movie to me, with all of the charm such movies have. It is over the top, out of character and really just silly.Later folks. 🙂

I don't really see anyone blaming or yelling at Sethisto. I just recommended the "GORE" header so as to be more specific than just "Grimdark". Grimdark can mean varying degrees to different people, but everypony knows what GORE means.

They'd want to go on, if for no other reason to see how much sicker the author could possibly have made the story.

Its one of those things you don't want to read but something dark in your mind tells you to keep reading. Going insane is always fun, for me at least…Alt ending is good, but I have to say this fic is well written, even if it is a little bit on the grim side…Did you notice Grim is only a little bit away from Grin? I've… been in the university for too long. While reading this I was going "Uhuh, uhuh, good pacing, uhuh, some minor grammar issues, somewhat accurate characterisation, uhuh, ooh nice twist, and with foreshadowing too…" Really, I'm getting kinda worried here.
The alternate ending was so heartwarming it pretty much instantly erases any left over feelings of being disturbed. Poor Pinkie! I bet she had to sleep over at Dash's for a week after that dream.

I liked this story. It had me cringing and the original ending gave me a feeling similar to the first Hostle movie, where these ponies keep getting away with these wild murders and they could still be out there… It's not like I'm fapping to this sort of thing, I just think that this is supposed to be a painful, gory story and that is entirely the vibe I get from it. The extra ending was just icing on the pony flavored cupcake, something sweet that you can decide if it happened or not, depending on your mood when thinking about the story. Overall, the grammatical errors are a bit distracting, but I liked this story.

Honestly, I thought I would be upset or angry from this, but it is so over the top and absurd in the crazy gore and psychopathic portrayal of Pinky, it comes off not as MLP:FiM but just bizarre parody. Fortunately because of that, it doesn't ruin my image of the characters or the universe at all, because it just feels so surreal and ridiculous.
Also, as Stokerbramwell stated, the alternate ending takes so much of the bad taste of the story away You can think of the second ending as the "real one", because at least it story makes a little sense.

The characterization is way off, the imagery is sophomoric at best, the dialogue is completely lifeless, and it's not even that good at what it aims for. Sure, it's disgusting, but because of how poorly-written it is, not for its content.You want to make a good, gory piece of fiction? Read the Johnnie Walker scene from Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami, then we'll talk.

I liked it!!!it did its job at getting pretty fucked up in some parts… it is hard to register a cringe from me but this story did have its moments, and as much as i hate tooting my own horn if you can get me to cringe, that is a mark of honor.i also loved the dialogue! it did have that subtle Rainbow dash is not all she is cracked up to be/just wants people to like her, bit in it to where it isn't beating me over the face with it. also some of pinkies lines are just relay funny! and that bit at the end (in the original version, i have not read the alternate ending) had me cracking up!Overall a very enjoyable story that i plan too read again… and i will recommend to some friends (the ones who can handle it)

Well I "finally" decided to read this. I guess I am more jaded than I would like to be, because I didn't find it to be that soul-crushing. Disgusting as all hell, and unfortunately, that ruined a lot of the emotion in the story. Never once did I feel sorry for Rainbow Dash. The sadness just wasn't there, as it was buried beneath all the torture and violence. I think this could have turned into a good sob-story if it was more balanced between the torture and the emotions you tried to express with Rainbow Dash. Secondly, this story would have been a lot more disturbing if in fact Pinkie Pie used Dash's entrails to make cupcakes for all her friends who proceeded to eat them. Instead, the only thing that disturbed me was the fact that I laughed at all of Pinkie's puns and, to an extent, the ending of the story.It was, however, well-written. I give credit for that. It's good for what it is, but it could have been so much better.8/10.
I will admit I was pretty disturbed at a couple points, and I'm no stranger to the worst the internet has to offer. I just don't get the point of writing something like this. The story isn't interesting and there is no artistic or creative worth to it at all, except trying to shove in as much random gore as possible. The author did do a good job of taking the character we love and utterly obliterating our love for them in a few dozen paragraphs.
I'll paraphrase a fitting review. "The author has fallen into the trap of every single high school drop out who decides that they've seen enough horror movies that they can write a good one in between shifts as a dishwasher. Clearly, too much time has been spent plotting out the villain, her one-liners, and her murderous quirks, and not enough on plotting out the story or removing all the awkward lines your stoned buddies came up with while playing wrestling video games at 3 am. This whole fic is one big circle jerk for gore-hounds fed up with character motivation, plot structure, or anything else that gets in the way of a forced meme."
Bit of a boring story. I'm not really sure what the fuss is about. The ending actually made it a bit amusing, mostly due previous character interactions giving the acts performed a valid narrative purpose. Like other people here have said, there's no story to this – just violence for the sake of violence. The attention to detail is nice at some points, however, such as her saving and valuing cutie marks. Keeping mementos from the victim is a usual trait of these individuals. In the end, though, violence without a story feels like a joke without context – pointless and stale.

I think that while the Fan-fic is fucked up, it's well written and well……actually kinda compelling. It puts an interesting spin on Pinkie Pie, who most would view as a total ditz and completely harmless. It puts her more in the mindset of someone like Jeffery Dahmer. Except that Dahmer didn't have a "numbers" system on how he killed. His killing pattern was more based on his deep seated fear of abandonment(which is an interesting kinda counterpoint for Pinkie actually). This whole "number" system actually makes it rather tragic for even Pinkie, implying that she(the Pinkie Persona that we all know) has no real control over who she kills and it is left up to some other aspect of her personality that she has no control over. And once you address Pinkie's Multiple-Personality Disorder, then you have to wonder where this "Dark Pinkie"(for lack of a better word) came into being. I mean, we know that Pinkie's parents are dead(I think, and it works well for this thought exercise) and that she was raised by her extended family. But we know very little about her childhood, maybe this "Dark Pinkie" came to be as a sort of protector of sorts, maybe someone abused Pinkie, maybe something happened to Pinkie, or maybe this "Dark Pinkie" just sorta popped in one day(Yeah yeah, I know I'm reading too much into this but whatever.). Who knows? Maybe this "Dark Pinkie" is what helps Pinkie Pie to "giggle at the ghostly". Maybe the darkness in her own mind is what can help her face the darkness of the outside world. Although, it does seem that Pinkie Pie has some control over her darker side, because she has that number system that she spoke of. That might be how she fights her urges, by trying as hard as she can to not kill those closest to her. But then the rather nasty dark little hobgoblin of a thought occurs, what if Pinkie Pie's "Dark Pinkie" persona killed her parents? Maybe they are a part of Pinkie's "party" down in her lair. Maybe their hides help to make the banner of "Life is a Party". I could go on for hours in a treatise on how fascinating this makes the character of Pinkie, but I really shouldn't and most people will tl;dr this anyway. But yeah, fucked up fan-fic, but compelling. I'd kinda chalk it up to people's admiration for "The Triumph of Will". The subject matter is abhorrent, but the execution and the subject matter are compelling. Although I much prefer the first alternate ending, with Dash.

It is sickening to think of a beloved character twisted like this. A character who through her attitude and actions throughout the show has brought smiles and laughs to thousands of people. A character who's twisting into a monster served NO PURPOSE other than pure shock value. It is despicable.And don't take me to mean that a character should never ever be changed or grown in a story, that's ludicrous. People have interesting stories they want to tell, and the events of those stories can affect the characters. But this? This is a frickin' joke. No rhyme, no reason, no relevance AT ALL to the character as she is in the show. It's SENSELESS and a waste of a character.I got into My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic thanks to a bright pink pony who was fun and funny in almost every scene she was in. The point of such stories is probably the shock element, that the reader is asking Why? And there will be never be an answer. No explanation to satisfy our minds. Just the brutal scenes. I guess that's why it burns into the mind. It's an unsolved riddle.Anyways, my cure for such things: embrace it. Not kidding. Turn off the lights, put on some sick music, and read it again, and again till you feel nothing about the story. No hatred, no anger. Then it will go away. It worked for me, can't guarantee it does for others aswell.

But I do enjoy the fanart made for this fic though. I could use a bit of well… Creepy pics to go with all of my cute MLP(FiM) pic collection~Though for me, it's not good of a fic, but it would be a nice concept for your next MLP visual/sound novel… (And please don't throw tomatoes at me!)

i'm all for freedom of speech and i'm aware the writer did it for the lolsbut i gotta ask… why gore? is your mind really that sick? it's just words, that's true, and it's true that words can't truly hurt, but man, your work says more about you than you thinkthe mere fact that you're writing about fictional characters being killed in a grim fashion and then literally baked in cupcakes for the others to eat… i gotta really question the sanity of the writer and the people who actually enjoyed it
I am not amused. Okay I am, but really I look at this story as wasted potential. The premise is good, but the execution is faulty. The writing lacks any real style, and the killing was a bit uninspired. The dialog was great though, I could really imagine Pinkie saying those things if she were a homicidal maniac. The story did make me laugh though, the contrast between the lighthearted and the murderous can be fun to those with high squick tolerances and a taste for black humor.
I'm in a limbo, I consider this scarier than 3 guys 1 hammer or pain olympics. I don't know if read this or no. Something tells me "do it" but something tell me no. Oh, well, I will never giggle at this ghostly if I don't face it.
Wow… The one by minalkra was just… epic! As for the original, I see it as more of a ponified version of hanable lector. And having a taste for horror movies with unnecessary amounts of gore, I kinda enjoyed this story. I guess the main reason why I'm not disturbed by this is because I've grown up on these kind of stories and I know they're not real.
Minalkra's alt. ending was pretty good, though hard to follow. Also noticed a lot of spelling errors that could be easily fixed with a light proofread.

Despite how much I love MLP, I actually enjoyed this story. I especially liked how it well it kept to Pinkie Pie's character in how she was joking around and stuff during some of the most disturbing scenes.Truly a unique, though horrifying tale involving our little ponies.
I finally manufactured enough vertibrae to giggle at this particular ghostie. After enough gore and screaming piled up I just kind of tuned it out and couldn't tune it back in. So, meh.There's a story in the Apple Bloom section under "Normal" called "White Tail Woods." No gore except for some brief squdgy noises off camera. That story had me six inches from my monitor, baring my teeth, and white-knuckeling my chair. No lie. My wife had to peel me off the celing when the fridge kicked on.
^^I feel that I should point out that Sgt. Sprinkles has some really great stories out there and you should read them. It sucks that "Cupcakes" is the one he seems to be known for. Okay, I'm done.

It has the essential technical elements (and some of Pinkie's dialogue was fititng enough), but it lacks an empathic narrative. It needs context to draw horror out of simple gore, you see? Preferably, more detail should have been put into the psychological depravity going on, rather than the slasher-properties.Of course, you'd have to change the narrative POV, but that's more inconvenient than really difficult. The point is that grimdark is not gore, it is… the essential pointlessness and solitude of existence overpowering the positivist narrative. It is the triumph of defeatism. Not just snuff.imho anwyay

If you picture this as a separate entity from Faust's core story and a FANFICTION – which it IS – then it's really easy to accept.I grinned a bit, picturing the look of horror on Twilight's face. So I just read this, and I've got some mild pre-medical background. I've done surgery on live rats and dissected animals – that kind of thing. When reading this story, I just couldn't help but think of how inconsistent some of this stuff is with biology.For starters, the knock-out cupcake is unlikely. Rather, it would more likely be something like Rohipnol, which renders a person conscious but basically inert. Actual anesthesia is complicated, and even applying it to small animals is dangerous and can cause them to die before you operate. You can't just make somebody eat or drink something and have them fall completely asleep.The other big thing was removing the intestines. After you do that your patient is basically dead because of a system of blood vessels known as the hepatic portal. Your body has to supply a lot of blood to your digestive tract, so when you carelessly remove a creature's guts with your bare hands, then death from blood loss is just a matter of seconds.The other issue is shock. After cutting pieces off of Rainbow Dash, Dash would certainly be losing blood, especially if she's panicked. If enough blood isn't circulating properly, then major organs that need that blood can fail, and that will lead to death. I don't know how long Dash blacked out for after her initial injuries, but if it was long there's a good chance she would have passed away while she was out.Otherwise, it was not a bad horror piece. Obviously not what the fans would be expecting, but I guess that's the point. Of course, when you go into reading it thinking, "I will be mortified, and that's the emotion I want to feel," then it's not a bad read.

While I understand that some people are upset by the story, personally, I think it's brilliant and hilarious.It's a dead-on spoof of the ridiculous levels of gore and pointless graphic violence of films like Saw and Hostel.However, if you're not a fan of slasher flicks and *real* grindhouse cinema, by the likes of Fulci, Diodatto, and the like, I wouldn't recommend it. Having read this three times now, it actually gives me an idea for a sequel. Not an alternative ending, an sequel. It would be a crossover of sorts between FiM and Jeff Lindsay's Dexter novels, with Crazy Cupcakes Cannibal Pinkie as the victim and another cast member as a Dexter Morgan expy who kills other serial killers. It could even be written in a Jeff Lindsay-esque monologue style.So, who could be Dexter Morgan? My first thought was Twilight Sparkle, but there are other options. Rarity shares with Dexter a great perception for details and an obsession for neatness, so she might be an option. With Fluttershy, one would have a nice pun for the title ("Dextershy"). I'm just not sure if I can see Fluttershy as a serial killer who kills other serial killers. Also, another brilliant option would be Luna, with Nightmare Moon as her Dark Passenger.I am really tempted to do something like this, but since I'm not a good fiction writer and I don't know if I will have the time, feel free to use this idea yourself if you like it.
I think this story deserves all the weird hype/fear its been getting. Now I've seen this kinda story telling before with all the gore and dark mentality, but its a right of passage if you do read it. Never look at pinkie pie the same way again boy I tell you what!

I read all the alternative endings. I liked the first three, and not really on the last three. Don't get me wrong, I thought they were all excellently written, just that I didn't like the concept of them. My favourite ending was the one done by Pimps Mcgee. I thought he captured Pinkie's personality better than the original author of Cupcakes. Also, after reading the ending by Dr. WTF. I did the biggest facehoof I've ever done. Normally, when people say that they facehoofed, they're just typing that to give their feelings. However, this is the first time I've ever actually facehoofed in real life from reading a fanfic. That was pretty bad.

My reaction to this story was somewhat odd, considering. As opposed to being thoroughly disgusted or sick or saddened, I was amused. The story is so over wrought and taken so far to the extremes that it stops being scary and goes into the territory of stupid funny. Crossing the line twice, as it were. Then again, I'm a person who does not find anatomy scary. If I want a good scare, I like suspense, darkness, primal fears, not just an anatomy lesson. Props for being bold enough to write this, but I'm afraid if scary is what you were going for, no sale here.

hm.that was… odd. Too unrealistic to really scare or disturb me, the person writing this obviously had no medical background whatsoever. Combine that with rather sub-par, purely descriptive writing, no imagery to speak of, and you've just got a bag of guts and no substance. I kept expecting a description of the smell, but apparently the smell isnt noteworthy, because it's pretty much not brought up at all. One would think a chamber full of pony remains would reek like nothing else.Honestly, I was expecting more, with the big deal everypony makes of it. I get the context of the references and jokes referring to this fic now, though, so I guess that's something.So yeah… not a total waste of time, but frankly, it's bad writing. The content, I can handle, (especially since it's so ridiculously presented… Dash would have died the instant her entrails were taken out. Maybe even when her wings were chopped off, depending on the arteries that go to the wings and how they are configured.) but the presentation is lukewarm. Soft. Mediocre. Just good enough to not be absolutely terrible, but still bad enough that it's almost not worth reading. So, final verdict? I'd suggest reading something else, but if you want to know what the hey everypony is talking about, I suppose you could read it.It does show the beginning development of some talent, though, if sergeant sprinkles is still writing, a little practice and I bet he could scare the socks off of anyone.
I really enjoyed it but would have made it more kinky if Pinky was complementing her instead. Darkjester's alt ending made this a lot better.
As I was reading, I made a few notes in regards to my personal tastes:Electrocuting your meat is going to make the muscle seize up and thus difficult to cook and eat. Not only that, but its going to flash cook parts of it as well. Pumping it full of adrenaline and pain killers is only going to make it even less palatable. When one considers how fragile horse meat is, Pinky's haphazard butchering is insulting to connoisseurs of meat everywhere.Furthermore, why for the love of Princess Celestia would she decide to dilute the flavor by hiding it in cupcakes? I'm not even sure if its possible to bake meat into cupcakes. I mean, beef wellington or eggrolls is one thing, but cupcakes? What an absolutely terrible way to prepare meat.
Well since I was a big Dark Eldar fan back in the day (about a decade or so), and I liked the background of Urien Rakarth. Add to that the fact I recently took a university course specifically dealing with the Holocaust and life in the concentration camps with several texts involving "Nazi" doctors performing every kind of experiment imaginable, the story didn't affect me so badly. I do feel bad for my other, younger fellow bronies who may not have had this prior initiation into sick and twisted writing. I guess what bothers me is that the fictional characters are portrayed in this way. Oh well…

And this is pretty weak sauce by comparison.The thing is, stuff like Barney deserves this kind of treatment because it's so aggressively sappy and shallow; the characters and setting barely deserve recognition as such, and they're free to be injected with subversive mischief like horrorshow fanfic. It's good for a belly laugh.Old-school MLP was more or less the same kind of thing; this would have worked in that context. But FiM is way too advanced beyond that level. It's rich on its own merits, with characters that are too well developed by now for something this outlandish to even pretend to ring true. We know what Pinkie Pie is really like. We know how Rainbow Dash would really react. This ain't it, no matter what silly writer tricks you pull.My innocence died when I read Day of the Barney; but FiM has brought it back to life. There's a reason that this fic is so legendary. It's imagery is so exact and horrifying that at the end of it I was literally feeling a sort of nauseous faint coming on. I've read and seen quite a few gory things before but this somehow managed to effect me in a really serious way.I didn't look at Pinkie the same for a while. Y'know, the reason why tons of people are disturbed by this story is because it's the first gory pony story. If I sat down and actually tried, I could write an even more disturbing one, but it wouldn't have the same impact because people already read this. Some people would probably think I was just taking ideas from it.

I found the thing fairly uninteresting. The language was that of an 8 year old, and judging by their poor lexicon and lack of proper understanding in fields such as sentence structure, rhetorical devices and most of all grammar, I'd have to say that the author probably does not excel in english.

@NulonoWhen I grabbed the text from the original Google doc to edit I put in Word 2010, which set it to the default Calibri font. However, when I uploaded it to Google Docs, the whole thing converted to Times New Roman for no apparent reason, and I didn't notice until much later.

So, after hearing so much about it, I finally decided to read Cupcakes. I'm actually trembling a little, which is very unheard of for me, as I don't scare easily. Moreover, I do feel as though I could vomit. I nearly did several times whilst reading. This story is ridiculously horrifying in every sense of the word. I can assure I will have nightmares, because the author made a point to be so eloquent and precise in their articulation that even though I didn't see any actual images, the scenes of Dash's demise will haunt me for a very long time. Having read the story, I feel the best way to describe my current state is "delightfully terrified." This is easily the most gruesome thing I've ever read, pony or no.

It's like mum and dad telling you as a kid that Santa isn't real, and when you start crying they quickly tell you it's a joke or make up a story to correct their gruesome mistake. I read all alternative endings and not one helped me in the slightest way.They are weak after thoughts to something that has done too much damage.Took me days to recover for I've sworn to turn my back on MLP forever. And I only just joined FFS.

As disturbing and disgusting as that was, it wasn't written badly, which is something I would expect of this type of story. It actually was written quite well, a little short if you ask me.

I kinda saw something like this coming a mile away though, through all that cute enthusiasm I did see a psychotic side to Pinkie the entire time.Pretty fitting for her to sound like her usual self while she does such gruesome work to ol' Dashy's demise, with the silly puns and light scolding and whatnot. It almost took my mind of the lost of appetite for any treats after a while…almost. Oh, and the ending was JUST the cherry on top! Wow just finished it and yeah that was F**king wrong on so many levels. Yet I was still intrigued by it man, such a crazy story. Now we know not to mess with Pinkie Pie and of all ponies Apple Bloom.
Whoever wrote this is severely disturbed. The fact that they had these images in their head just makes me afraid for anyone who lives around them. Seriously. This is in the Ed Gein category of Fuckedness.

Needs a video to go with it.And it needs to be fluttershy that gets slaughtered. That would be SO much disturbing.It also needs to have WAY more torture in it. How about putting Rainbow's intestines around a giant spool, winding them up, and lighting them on fire still connected to her stomach as Fluttershy watches them burn. Now THAT would be seriously bad. I was also disappointed that that she did not light her mane/tail on fire. That would have been cool.Once again, it TOTALLY should have been Fluttershy who got killed. Her personality would make it all that more innocent and fun to voilate.

I don't know about anyone else, but when I was getting started in this "My Little Pony" thing. I was searching through some old fanfics, generally enjoying myself and laughing at the interesting ideas that people made up.But through it all, my favorite character on the show was (and still is) Pinkie Pie. She was funny, random, and always laughing. She brought a smile to my face, just like she was born to do. Then I kept hearing about "Cupcakes" and how horriable it was and how it destroyed peoples image of Pinkie Pie FOR-EVERRRR!!!So I finally decided to pony-the-fuck-up and went for it.It all started off okay, and I just smiled expecting nothing important. . . .Then shit hit the fan. I had to turn on the lights just to keep reading through it. I unconciously had my hand over my mouth and forced myself to read right to the VERY end. Where it all ended on a sour note.For the next four days, my image of Pinkie Pie was "shattered" and I found myself relunctantly pulling away from her and even cringing when I went back to see her on youtube. That's how disturbingly bad this story got to me. But as much as I hated it, it was written quite wonderfully. I couldn't help but curse the writer for this thing and wondered why they didn't put that effort into making a happier or friendlier story? Who would ever imagine making one of the happiest, nicest characters on the show, as a complete psycho-path? Someone with problems, that's who. Still. . . After the fourth day, I went back to try to get over my fear by going through nicer fanfics that I liked. But I was surprised when I discovered the ALT. endings to Cupcakes. I think THESE were the main reason why I generally got over my initial rejection to Pinkie Pie, especially the "excuse" one that I won't spoil. Though. . . One of them does kinda come from left-field and leves me confused. Anyways. I've rambled on enough. The only thing I've learned from this is that CUPCAKES has earned its title as a LEGENDARY fanfic. Especially if it can leave an impression like that on me.

I'll admit it.I was scared as fuck before I even started reading due to all that I heard about it.Then,for whatever reason,I started imagining that Pinkie Pie's voice was replaced by Heath Ledger's Joker.Whether it was because I was reading this after literally having stayed up for an entire night,up till 8 or so AM,or some other profound reason,that action actually made this entire story laughable.Still though,I do admit that was some pretty insane gore,but I managed to use how mortifying it was to steel myself when I read future tales such as this one.

No but seriously this didnt really get to me i mean even with the gore, splayed out pony bits, etc… But even with all of that i thought this was great it kinda made me happy sorta. But if you look this kinda reminds me of Hannibal Lecter and a few others. So, I haven't read it, but I came here from TV Tropes so I know enough about it to say this. I don't think I could do this justice, but I thought I might toss it out there to see if another bronie might give this idea a spin. An alternate ending where the Pinkie Pie of this story is a split personality of the real Pinkie Pie, possibly as the result of a curse instead of being actually crazy (Though I guess you can change that if you want). Pinkie Pie never remembers anything about these "parties" or the events leading up to one and has been sorta in denial over the gaps in her memory and other indications that something is seriously wrong until Gilda's "disappearance" forces her to realize she can't ignore it anymore. She goes to Twilight Sparkle for help, but Twilight figures it out too late to prevent Dash from being Pony-napped and has to rush to the rescue.I just figure it'd be more interesting like this than if she really was just crazy with no explanation, plus it gives a chance for an ending where it's not just a dream, but Dash is saved AND Pinkie is saved from herself, though it's not a totally happy ending since there's still the fallout of it all to deal with. What do you guys think?
I have to say that this is my favorite fiction of all time! It gave me and continues to give me nightmares, made Pinkie 20% cooler and also made me watch MLP:FiM in the first place.Fun fact: the costume Pinkie Pie is wearing is amazing! you can't see its awesomeness as long as Pinkie stands on all four. Well that wasn't really so bad, but now I'm feeling oddly hungry…
So I read through most of it. I was disturbed by it, but that's only because I enjoy the characters. My body was having none of it though. I felt physically ill with light-headedness, light nausea and whited-out vision. I didn't even realize it was happening when I was reading it, I just suddenly felt awful. Even though I read 'Grimdark' stories all the time, I think what did it was the pointless gore, and being able to feel what Rainbow Dash felt. It wasn't that long of a feeling, and it hasn't ruined Pinkie Pie's character for me.The grammar and some wording of what I read had much to be desired, but I could feel what was happening to Rainbow Dash from the description. That in itself probably makes up for most of the other mistakes. I'm sure the rest of it is fine, but I can't finish it, though I did skim the rest. I must have missed the explanation on why Pinkie was doing this though.There's a reason that this is so legendary in this fandom. It's a good thing I already know the characters so well, or else this may have influenced my perception of the characters.It was alright. It won't stay with me throughout my day, but I know where the limit is and how much I can stomach. 4/5 stars for shock value alone.

The whole thing was pretty ridiculous, and I was able to breeze through it once the shock value was gone. Is it grimdark? Yes. Is it a good grimdark story? No. It's just a gore fic, but I guess that's what the author wanted. Who am I to complain.I don't consider my body's visceral reaction to be my final call. Mentally I was fine throughout, so I believe I have beaten Cupcakes, so to say.Interesting interpretation though. I laughed quite hard when Applebloom showed up. Ah, kids.

I for one owe my "brony" status to "Cupcakes". I used to be one of the haters. When I heard there was a fanfic of ponies getting brutally murdered, I thought it would be entertaining. when I was finished I started to read another fanfic, then another. and It pretty much went uphill from there.
The alternate ending written by milesprower06 was really good, and I would say that it probably should have been given its own page like Rocket to Insanity was. Its really more of a sequel than anything else.

This is a review for the revised version of the original story. Even though this type of plot is quite common, it is still enjoyable. Keeping Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash in character throughout the story certainly helps and overshadows several criticisms I would have otherwise had if this were about a group of characters I had only known for fifty pages or so. This story is by no means original, yet there is indeed something about it that is quite intriguing. I wish it was on fanfiction.net so I could add it to my favorites. I guess I will simply keep it on my E-Reader of choice instead so that I may read it again when the mood strikes since this story is indeed worth another read. Good work.

I have watched open heart surgeries and organ removals on television and they didn't phase me one bit. This story deeply disturbed and saddened me. Rainbow Dash is my favorite character; I love her and I can relate to her in the show. The person who wrote this must have serious depression or some other mental disorder, because I cannot think of any person who would dare to right something as horrible and horrifying as this. The story is an absolute monstrosity. I had to stop reading and just skim over the most gory parts. I beg all of you never to lay eyes on this story. And if you do and you come out of it crying and shaking, I'll be there with a big, heaping I TOLD YOU SO.

That wasn't too bad. People are doing all kind of crossovers and genre-twists with FiM now, so a gore horror take isn't that far-fetched. Just how many people went to watch movies like "Saw" even though they usually sucked, right? I feel a lot more revolted when people derail the characters completely, with no resemblence to the show whatsoever, than someone putting a twist like this on them.

Ok just finished reading, with silent hill music on the background, sure quite graphic (thank you vivid imagination), but I still prefer a more Silent Hill kind of terror focused on the atmosphere and mental stress that this Saw kind of terror focused on the (physical) pain.Other than that, those organs puns really made me laugh my flack of, but a little story or character development would have be good, anyway it might not be the greatest piece of literature by itself but it’s such a huge part of the MLP fan-base that everyponi should read it, if only to get the references, so make sure everyponi you know read it. 🙂

Objectively, this is quite a good story. While there are grammatical errors here and there, it is ultimately very well written, both in terms of structure and language. The characters are also decently in-character, at least, as far as the characters can be considered in-character within the context.It's almost darkly comical – It very much seems inspired by the story of Sweeney Todd, and the humour very much lends itself to the genre of black comedy.Sadly, that is where my praise must end. Subjectively, this is one of the most vile things I have ever read – In the context of fictional subjects, it may very well be the worst. This story is funny in the same way that a Holocaust joke told to a survivor is funny: Typically, one may be able to find such a morbid joke funny, but given the circumstances, it's simply cruel.I really don't have anything more to say – The story is simply unnecassary, distasteful, disgusting, horrifying, vile, an abomination against the very concept of morality, and I didn't like it very much at all.

I have taken a liking to the alternative ending by milesprower06. While sad, it is still a happier ending which also leads to more character development and some interesting turns.

It wasn't as horrible as I expected. Sure, there were some parts that made shiver of disgust, but there wasn't really something that made me think of the story the rest of the day, not being able to eat and have horrible nightmares.

For all those who don't want to be spoiled before they read, or you are just not interested in reading I’d recommend to skip it.As others have said, this Fic runs on the shock value of violence/gore for its own sake. And yes, there is little, if anything, that you can take out of this one. I mean, it's not impossible, it's just that to do so you will have to go borderline "Overthiking It" and squint REAL HARD to see anything beyond the senseless slaughter.That being said, it certainly isn't a bad fic…..YEAH I SAID IT! It isn't bad, it just isn’t trying to teach you anything or send a message, and the author is obviously knows it; what else can you call the…lulzy ending with Apple Bloom? I for one write it off as that the author was completely aware of what type of fic it was. This is not a deep, thought provoking fic, but that's alright, because not all fics need to be that way and it still can be entertaining. NOT enjoyable mind you, but entertaining.As for the OOC-ness atmosphere this fic carries…well, what exactly were you expecting people? The whole premise of this thing makes it that everyone involved in this is auto OOC before the first sentence was even written =/ On that note, Rainbow Dash is definitively in character all the way till Pinkie starts the whole thing. Pinki is….imho Pinkie is as IC as you can make her if she really was a mad serial killer.Pinkie Pie though, is the best thing about this fic…and by best I again mean the most entertaining. Her dialogue is…brilliant imho. She's is THE most disturbing thing in the fic. I'm almost tempted to say she is the ONLY disturbing thing, but the graphic description of the whole thing has just enough edge to mark it was disturbing too, not as much as her whole attitude towards the murder though. I liked Pinkie in this one. Hell, I loved all her lines.The “GRIMMDARK AS FUCK” tag is well deserved as this is not a fic for everyone; though, the infamy that follows this fic overhypes it; I don’t think THIS is the most disturbing Pony fic ever made, and if it is then it’s surprisingly tame. I found AKIRA (the movie) far more disturbing than this…but maybe that’s because it was illustrated. It surprised me to be that /b/tards of all people had such a big reaction to this, maybe their imagination is so much above mine that they picture the stuff in their minds in such a way that made it far more disturbing and graphic than what my mind told me it was. I’m also unsure about the whole “It will ruin Pinkie Pie forever” since she was my fave before reading this and she’s STILL is.Anyway, neat read. Interesting representation of Pinkie Pie, the original one has (imo) a lulzy as hell ending with Apple Bloom. And if anything, it would test how much you hate Gilda, Silver Spoon and Diomond Tiara
I'm glad I couldn't picture them as ponies in my head. Pinkie pie was replaced by a nice hannibal lecter kind of guy, while rainbow dash was played by that one guy, of that one movie.It doesn't matter that much, but at least it means I don't associate it with MLP

So after all the hype and infamy surrounding this fic, I finally decided to read it. And… I don't see the big deal. Sure it's gory, but it's so overblown and outrageous that it's impossible to take seriously.In fact, I actually thought that this was funny. I was chuckling the whole way, and when she started cracking organ puns I just lost it.
No….. not Rarity. I stopped half way. I am going to let ignorance finish out the rest of the story for me.

@AnonymousIt's not bad, it's just gruesome. And even if after reading it you realize it was too much for you, go to youtube and watch the HD trailer for Cupcakes: The Movie. I don't know why, but that video just fixes everything sickening about this story.
This story is messed up, creepy, sad, full of gore etc. But, I thank Pacce and Cartoonhottie2009 for alternate happy endings. You guys rock! Woohoo! Cheers and thousand yays for you 😉

1——– alcohol helps2——– the puns were good3——– the work inspired good alternate endings where the writers met a challenge and wrote good followups, I especially liked SirenScythe's alt ending because it A) allowed the reader to transition from horror/disgust into sadness and empathy and then into happy YES I SAID IT THE ALT ENDED MADE IT ALL HAPPY AND B) made cupcakes a worthwhile read which it would not have been
You know, as awful as that was, it was VERY well written… i was back and forth between liking it and hating it, turns out, GREAT fic.

While this story is very disturbing and bloody, I have to say it's not any worse than an episode of Happy Tree Friends.As a Brony, I must say that this fanfic DID give me a second impression on Pinkie Pie, but it didn't ruin the series for me in the slightest. In fact, it made the series even better!Like I said, even though it is really bloody, it is a VERY well written piece, and it inspired me to write a sequel to James Corok's Cupcakes sequel: Le Peteit Four.However, I will put a twist on it… *Evil Laugh*
